Along the shore of Seneca SCHUYLER COUNTY, Feb. 23, 2015 -- Much of the surface of Seneca Lake froze in varying degrees of thickness -- razor thin to impressively thick -- during the recent cold snap. And though District Attorney Joe Fazzary reports from up the lake that much of the ice in his area disappeared with Sunday's warming trend -- "Waves were high," he says, adding that the ice that preceded them was "the coolest thing I've ever seen on this lake." -- more cold was forecast in the coming days. So he might well see that ice again. Some of his photos, along with one by lake resident Tom Phillips and another by Marianne Morin, can be found here. Meanwhile, the ice remained over most of the southern end of the lake Sunday. Liz Fraboni provides some photos from that day at the pier, while editor Charlie Haeffner offers some from the same day and two days earlier.
