Adam Foster's family issues official statement

In lieu of personal interviews, the immediate family of Adam Foster has authorized the release of the following statement to the press for public distribution and publication. They wish to express their sincerest gratitude for the continued interest and coverage of Adam’s situation. However, they ask that people respect their need for privacy at this time.

Foster Family Official Statement

We would like to express our extreme gratitude for the overwhelming prayers, support and action that has been offered in response to our son Adam’s situation overseas.

Adam, while on his way home to the United States after a work contract in Dubai (in January), was arrested and then convicted Thursday of the crime of "Finding and Keeping" a pair of Police-issued handcuffs, and is currently serving 30 days in a Dubai prison. Adam had faced up to 7 years in prison. It is our belief that Thursday’s outcome would have been drastically different without the time, effort and expertise of volunteers who have rallied to Adam and our side.

We would like to call on all of Adam’s supporters to continue their campaign of action and awareness. We ask supporters to spread the word that Adam is not safe until he is returned to his family and friends. We ask supporters to continue to send letters and emails of support and concern and to request UAE and U.S. officials to monitor Adam’s well being while in jail, to ensure his fair and humane treatment as he respectfully serves out his sentence.

We would like to thank the U.S. consulate in Dubai for having representatives present at Adam’s court judgment on Thursday. We respectfully request that U.S. officials on the ground in Dubai continue their presence and influence on behalf of Adam to ensure his humane treatment while serving his 30-day sentence.

We further request that U.S. officials in Dubai obtain and provide our family with a telephone number at which a representative can be reached, as public numbers have proven unreliable and ineffective.

We request that a U.S. Consulate representative visit Adam while in jail, a minimum of once a week, to confirm his well being, in light of his previous treatment while incarcerated in Dubai.
We further request that a U.S. official be present at any hearing or proceeding with regard to Adam’s case, specifically any hearing where any adjustment of his sentence based upon good behaviour is to be determined.

We would like to further thank the following people for their individual contributions to spread Adam’s story and aid in his case:

Jamie Pokerwinski
Kate Lamoreaux
Liam Fitzsimmons
Marie Fitzsimmons
Eric Greenberg
Helen Franzese

We look forward to celebrating Adam’s safe return home in 28 days or sooner. We ask that you please keep Adam in your thoughts and prayers.
